frequently asked questions
AWANA is based on 2 Timothy 2:15 and stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. Our Wednesday night programs are for 2-year-olds through 5th grade and focus on verse memorization and how to apply those verses to our lives.
We hone in on the value of children writing the Word on their hearts at an early age. We want them to engage with Gospel early and learn God's Word is real and active. We are setting a foundation for Christ-like kids to grow into Christ-like adults.
What happens during AWANA?
Puggles (2-3 years) and Cubbies (3-5 years):
Every week each group has Bible Story time, hands on experiences, game time, center time, a craft, and snack. Puggles focus on learning their "Big Idea" for the week while the Cubbies practice memorizing their weekly verse.
Sparkies (K-2nd Grade) and TnT (3rd - 5th Grade):
These groups start with the first 30 minutes in homeroom to connecting, reciting verses, and discussing the week's lesson. Next they either go to game time or large group and then rotate. Large group focuses on teaching a weekly lesson that connects with what children are doing at home in their books.
What do I need to do as a parent?
Working through the material through the week, staying connected through weekly emails from Rebecca to know what is coming up and where your kids should be in their material, reviewing verses and main ideas.
How do my kids earn AWANA bucks?
Your children will earn AWANA bucks throughout the year that they can use for AWANA store nights. They can earn bucks through attendance, wearing tennis shoes and your AWANA t-shirt, bringing your AWANA book and your bible, bringing a friend (5 points), participating in theme nights, and memorizing verses.
What is provided at snack time?
Snack is provided in the classroom for preschoolers. For elementary students, we provide a snack at the end as a grab and go. All kids receive goldfish and water, and if there is an allergy, apple slices and water.
What does check-in look like?
When you arrive, you will check in your child at our kiosk stations and print a name tag for each child. Once you get to their room, please be sure to sign them in on the sheet next to each door. The information on these sheets helps to ensure they earn their AWANA bucks for store night!
